Nifty Needle Designs, Inc. began as a basement project in 1972 as a result of being a student in an adult education class. Mrs. Hilgartner was asked by the instructor to teach the next upholstery class before her project was even finished. Over the years the business has expanded from clothing alteration business to a custom interior design firm.

Nifty Needle Designs, Inc. has been recognized for its quality designs by Baltimore Magazine and has also appeared in the prestigious Chesapeake Home Magazine. Nifty Needle Designs, Inc. has fabricated numerous items, done charity show houses and worked for other designers.

The owner, Rose M. Hilgartner, has been a member of the National Drapery Association. She is also member of the National Slipcover Network Association. Through continuous training, she has become a certified Window-Covering Specialist by the WCAA. She has won various art and design awards since 1972. Her experience includes 30 years of teaching in various settings such as church, youth groups, adult education, senior centers, retail stores, junior and senior high schools and community college settings. Her sewing experience spans 48 years. Students say she is a good teacher, very patient and encouraging. She has the gift of being able to make her own patterns and designs when asked to do so.

Nifty Needle Designs Inc. has it's own workroom and classroom. The company fabricates many original designs for the window covering industry both in residential and commercial settings. The workroom has been certified by the Window Covering Association of America.
